| Talavera, a form of Majolica, was introduced to Mexico by craftsmen
from the town of Talavera, Spain in the early 16th century and has
been in production ever since. Originally produced in a number of mexican towns
principally in Puebla and nearby towns in Texcoco, in a small quantity in the shop of Corky Gonzales in Guanajuato
and largely as bathroom tile in Dolores Hidalgo. This tradition has recently undergone
a remarkable revitalization in Dolores Hidalgo with fresh ideas for both shapes and painted designs. Mexican Talavera pieces shown here are hand painted and unique, and as you will see is some of the most beautiful decorative art available anywhere. We try to keep this page
up to date but please call for availability.
Talavera pottery is completely hand made and as a result
almost all have minor drying or firing flaws which are considered normal.
When such flaws are more obvious we some times offer at a lower price.
We normally show such flaws in the photos.
